How to Book a Hotel

The SXSW Housing Department can book the best selection of Austin hotels at the best available rates during SXSW. Most hotels sell out every year and SXSW rates are normally better than anyone else's. See our availability page for hotels, rates, and amenities.

I am registered and ready to book my hotel room:

You can book your room one of two ways!

  1. Shopping Cart: Log into the shopping cart that was used to purchase your registration and click on the "SXSW" tab at the top of the page. Choose "SXSW Hotels" at the bottom of the drop down menu. Your cart will list all badges that have been purchased and there is a link to “Request Hotel” next to each name that was assigned. That link will allow you to request your hotel accommodations and will pre-fill your contact information. Simply enter your dates and choose a hotel and room type that is offered on the drop-down list based on those dates.

  2. SXsocial: You can book a room, change an existing reservation or cancel your housing entirely via your SXsocial account. Your registration confirmation e-mail contains a unique link to activate your current registration with your SXsocial account. You’ll then log into your existing SXsocial account (that you may have created last season or when creating a shopping cart,schedule or when submitting to PanelPicker) or you will create a new SXSocial account if you have not already used any of the above SXSW applications.

I have not registered for the current season:

To book a room at SXSW’s group rate, you must first register for the conference(s) you plan on attending. After purchasing your registration, your shopping cart will immediately provide you with a unique link to submit your hotel request. SXSW Housing is unable to book or hold a room prior to the guest being registered.

I plan on registering for the current season but haven't yet because:

I'm waiting to see if my panel/ film/ press credential application is accepted

SXSW Housing holds back a certain number of rooms for these badge types. They are first-come, first-served among those respective groups. Once your participation is confirmed and you are registered for the conference, you may book your hotel from those blocks at that time. SXSW Housing cannot book or hold any room until you are registered.

Be sure you're familiar with Film, Music and Interactive panelist invitations, Film submissions and press credential applications, including timelines for applications and acceptances. Please see those respective departments if you are interested in checking on the status of your application or submission.

I'm negotiating marketing, exhibition or sponsorship participation that isn't complete

The SXSW Housing Department holds back a certain number of rooms for our marketing & sponsor clients. They are first-come, first-served among those respective groups. Once your sales or sponsor agreement has been signed & paid, your SXSW marketing representative will give you the tools you need to make hotel reservations for both your registrants and your trade show workers. The SXSW Housing Department cannot book or hold any rooms until then, so we recommend finalizing your participation as soon as possible for the most options.

I have applied to an artist showcase

Bands who are invited to showcase at SXSW will then be able to use their Artist Info page to book hotel rooms for band members, tour managers and road crew once they have been officially invited. SXSW Housing holds back a certain number of rooms at desirable hotels for artists. They are first-come, first-served among all artists.

Please note: artist managers, label reps and other non-road-crew may not book a room through the Artist Info page. If you are representing a band, you must purchase a badge and book your hotel room via your registration. All applicants will have the opportunity to purchase a badge at the lowest discounted rate, whether the artist is accepted or not, so we recommend waiting to receive your status notification before purchasing a badge. You will be able to follow the instructions for registrants at that time.

I have applied & been officially invited to showcase

Once you have received your official email invitation and accepted your performance agreement, you may book rooms for band members, tour managers and road crew. Log into your Artist Info page. If you have accepted your performance agreement, you’ll see an option to “Book Hotel”.

Please note: artist managers, label reps and other non-road-crew may not book a room through the Artist Info page. If you are representing a band, you must purchase a badge and book your hotel room via your registration.

I am receiving a Trade Show Worker Pass

Trade show workers who are not registering because they are receiving their company's Trade Show Worker Passes can find instructions for booking rooms in their Exhibitor Admin page. That link is provided by your company's SXSW marketing representative.
