The best-of list season has arrived! With plenty of film and music rankings to sift through, SXSW Comedy has been finishing up the year enjoying best-of episodes from a few of our favorite podcasts. Nobody does the holidays quite like Earwolf, the podcast network with iTunes’ top shows like Comedy Bang! Bang!, Who Charted? and How Did This Get Made, as well as some of our favorite new programs including improv4humans, The Fogelnest Files, Owen & TJ Read the News and many more.
Comedy Bang! Bang! dropped its 2012 "Holiday Spectacular" episode this week, with special appearances from popular guests Paul F. Tompkins, Harris Wittels, Matt Besser, Paul Rust, Jon Daly and Nick Kroll. Last month, Comedy Bang! Bang! Live—the acclaimed stand-up showcase most recently hosted by the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre—ended its decade-long run. However, this totally stacked holiday special proves the show will still be in full force online. For some amazing behind-the-scenes shots from CBB’s send-off Nativity Pageant, take a look at photographer Liezl Estipona’s album.
Earwolf.com is spreading the holiday cheer with free downloads including improv4humans’ “Best Of improv4humans Vol. 2” featuring dozens of guests, including Tim Meadows, Ben Schwartz, Horatio Sanz and Zach Woods. Also available, Gelmania’s “The Best Of Gelmania Year 1” with several new pieces from host Brett Gelman, along with visits from Brian Huskey and Curtis Gwinn. Plus, the Earwolf store has just released two downloadable holiday treats, including the “Best of 2012” sampler pack—six episodes to whet any podcast fan’s appetite—and “The Complete Comedy Bang Bang! Christmas Collection,” featuring two EPs and two CBB Christmas albums. This special holiday collection also includes Scott Aukerman's own version of "Do They Know It's Christmas," with comics like Tig Notaro, Brian Posehn, Rob Huebel, Chris Hardwick, Doug Benson and more.
