Diarrhea Planet: "Repulsive" Name, Inviting Sound

Written by Jessica Pickett | August 1, 2013

Nashville-based six-piece pop punk band Diarrhea Planet first made their SXSW debut during the 2013 event on the Consequence of Sound and Shea Stadium music showcase at Palm Door. Their shenanigans at the festival earned them a very loving title from SPIN as "Best Band With Most Repulsive Name." After two earlier EP releases, the band dropped their first LP, Loose Jewels, in September of 2011 on Infinity Cat Recordings, owned by JEFF The Brotherhood guitarist, Jake Orrall. The label is home to other South By alum including Natural Child, PUJOL, and Denney & the Jets.

This August, Diarrhea Planet will be releasing their follow up LP, I'm Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams, with the help of what's sure to be a riotous album release show at Nashville's Exit/In on the 17th. Support for the show includes South By favorites Hunx & His Punx, Hunters, and The So So Glos, who performed on the CoS/Shea Stadium showcase with DP this past March.

The band is currently on a July/August tour, performing at shows with Widespread Panic, Slightly Stoopid and Athens based indie rock band Futurebirds, who local Austinites can catch them with at The Parish on Thursday, August 1st. After a couple more dates with Futurebirds, Diarrhea Planet will be jumping on an August/September tour with The So So Glos.

In a recent Pitchfork article, a contributor boldly stated, "If you measure a live show's success by how happy to be alive it makes you, then Nashville's Diarrhea Planet have the greatest live show on Earth." Make sure to check out DP's blog to see if they're coming to a city near you.
