What a week for SXSWfm! While our Programming Manager and host of Americana World HQ has been out on vacation, various hosts have been having a lot of fun filling in.
Last week, we had our Australian music programmer Cori take over Americana World Headquarters and Tha Fixx Radio (our weekly hip hop show), Austin Chronicle writers Chase Hoffberger and Kevin Curtin talked about everything from quicksand to wells to losing CDs with Gary Clark Jr. on Chronolog, and we took a good look at the Reading and Leeds Festivals on Rory B. / Self Titled. We also did a couple of one-off specialty hours: listen to the SXSW Legends show here and the SXSW Internationals show here.
Without further ado, here's your SXSWfm weekly recap.
Cori took over the mic for Americana World Headquarters this week, spinning some sweet Americana tracks both new and old. She focused the show around new releases from Justin Townes Earle, Cory Branan and Benjamin Booker. A great hour of music to relax your brain on this Monday.
As always, Floored host Jes Elliott brought some big tracks to the table for this week's edition of his show. Listen below for chill electronic tunes from Delroy Edwards, FaltyDL and more.
While regular host of Tha Fixx B. Hobbs was "stuck" in Las Vegas earlier this week, Cori once again stepped up to fill in. I know what you might be thinking: how can the same girl host both an Americana show and a hip hop show in the same week? (Or, ever?) Well, she has quite the breadth of musical knowledge. Tune in below for tracks from Kevin Gates, Statik Selektah, DJ Mustard and a whole lot more.
No subject is off limits on the Chronolog, our weekly perspective on the Austin music scene with Chase Hoffberger and Kevin Curtin of the Austin Chronicle. Last week, the pair went through a playlist of bands whose names are (apparently) hard to pronounce or spell, but the music is excellent nonetheless. Get a good laugh and learn about the best music out of Austin on Chronolog radio.
My new weekly rock show finally has a title, and it's the same name as its host. On last week's edition of Rory B. / Self Titled, we went through five SXSW showcasing artist alumni who played both the Reading and Leeds Festivals over the weekend. Even though the fest is over, it's a still a worthy mix featuring tracks from Wolf Alice, Jake Bugg and more.
