As we learn more about the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, it's apparent that the needs of the affected population are going to quickly outstrip the resources available. SXSW urges you to donate now to the Red Cross, which has a great history of being first on the scene after a disaster, offering the most practical help available. Your contribution, large or small, can make a real difference in people's lives who are lacking the most basic necessities - water, food, shelter, and medical attention.

Richard Dorsett 1955-2012

Richard Dorsett 1955-2012Richard Dorsett, Credit: David Fox Our dear friend and colleague Richard Dorsett suddenly passed away on Friday, October 26th in his home in Austin. Richard had been associated with SXSW for many years as a music festival submissions curator and an Assistant Production Manager, supervising the production of music festival shows.

Richard was one of the original Inner Sanctum Records clerks at the seminal Austin indie record shop during the 1970s, where his trenchant in-store commentary became the stuff of legend. His status in the history of the early punk rock/new wave scene in Austin was cemented with his arrest by the Austin Police Department during the riot that accompanied the debut appearance at Raul's of punk band The Huns, making him one of the "Huns 7."
