Richard Dorsett, Credit: David Fox
Our dear friend and colleague Richard Dorsett suddenly passed away on Friday, October 26th in his home in Austin. Richard had been associated with SXSW for many years as a music festival submissions curator and an Assistant Production Manager, supervising the production of music festival shows.
Richard was one of the original Inner Sanctum Records clerks at the seminal Austin indie record shop during the 1970s, where his trenchant in-store commentary became the stuff of legend. His status in the history of the early punk rock/new wave scene in Austin was cemented with his arrest by the Austin Police Department during the riot that accompanied the debut appearance at Raul's of punk band The Huns, making him one of the "Huns 7."
SXSW Accelerator is a cutting-edge showcase for companies to present new technologies before a panel of industry experts, early adopters and representatives from the venture capital community.
Accelerator 2013 is gearing up to be one of the most exciting yet, with hundreds of groundbreaking companies applying to participate. Sponsorship opportunities are a great way to connect with the Startup community at SXSW Interactive and are still available for the categories of Health, Innovative Web, Mobile, Music, News and Social Technologies. Contact Katie King for information on how to get involved!
Winners by Michael CummingsTime is running out. The entry deadline for one of SXSW Interactive's premier competitions is just a couple of weeks away. SXSW is proud to announce the return of Esurance, the company known for its modern approach to car insurance, as a 2013 SXSW Super Sponsor.
As part of their 2012 sponsorship, Esurance gave the lucky winner of the Esurance Go Platinum Sweepstakes a 10-night hotel stay for 2 in downtown Austin, $1,000 travel money, and 2 Platinum Badges. On top of that, Esurance was committed to easing the SXSW experience for all attendees. Those who stopped by their booth were able to take a break from the maddening pace, give their gadgets a (much-needed) recharge, and take advantage of gifts and giveaways.
