Futurist, science fiction author and cyberpunk pioneer, Bruce Sterling is set to wrap up SXSW Interactive 2013 in his inimitable way. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 will bring Bruce Sterling's traditional closing remarks. An acclaimed science fiction novelist, a frequent contributor to Wired and a brilliant cultural and social analyst, Sterling's solo presentations are legendary for their humor, satire and poignancy. Coiner of neologisms such as "spime" and "slipstream," Sterling will give his unique vision of the state of tech now and the way of things to come. If you've never seen Sterling speak to his people, this unique presentation is a can't miss. No SXSW trip is complete until you hear his overview of the event! Keep up with Sterling's musings on his Wired blog.

SXSW Interactive Announces 2013 Dewey Winburne Community Service Honorees

Created by tammy on November 29, 2012

Community is the heart of everything that we do at the SXSW Interactive Festival. To this end, we are very proud that so many community do-gooders and leaders from the non-profit world congregate in Austin each March for the event. Recognizing the best of the best of these community do-gooders and leaders from the non-profit world is the basis for the annual Dewey Winburne Community Service Award.

Posted below are the 10 honorees for this award for 2013. Several of these honorees came to our attention via the SXSW Interactive Scholarship Program. Please join us on the evening of Sunday, March 10 for a special ceremony for these Dewey Award honorees. The ceremony on Sunday, March 10, 2013 is free and open to the public (a SXSW badge is not required to attend). Stay tuned to this website for more details on location.

Since late July the SXSW Housing Department has made thousands of hotel reservations for registrants for our events and Austin hotels are nearly sold out for certain SXSW dates. Because events are back-to-back or overlapping, March 8 through 11 dates are difficult to find at a single hotel. You can check the updated list of hotels and their availability online. (SXSWedu registrants–good downtown hotels are still available. Make your reservation when you purchase your registration.)
