UZOY - "Fast Forward": SXSW 2013 Showcasing Artist

UZOY (pronounced uzi) is a Nigerian-American female rapper and producer from the southeast side of Houston, TX. She began writing music in high school as a hobby and soon began to record her first songs.

Her passion followed her as she went to college and continued to create music. Commonly referred to as “UZOY like the gun”, she has made a name for herself while finishing her college education.

BLKHRTS - "OVR": SXSW 2013 Showcasing Artist

BLKHRTS are a force of nature. Their live show is like a hurricane slamming into a shoreline at a thousand miles an hour or an avalanche triggered by barbaric yawp. King Foe, one third of the Velociraptor-voiced Denver rap trio, describes them as the “breath that you take the moment after the bungee cord is extended to its fullest extent jumping into the Grand Canyon.” Yorrissey, the group’s producer, summarizes them as “M.O.P.” meets Morrissey.” There is a light that will always get punched out.

Mr. Lewis and The Funeral 5 - "Black Coffee Night": SXSW 2013 Showcasing Artist

“When fedora-wearing, experimentation-loving punk rockers get fed up with the status quo, anything can happen...” – Austin Chronicle

Macabre + Cabaret = Macabaret. It\'s a word that had to be coined, because how does one describe a group such as Mr. Lewis and The Funeral 5?

On its second album Delirium Tremendous (July 26th, Chicken Ranch Records) perhaps as Jim Morrison fronting a Rohypnol-addled Pogues? Or maybe as Tom Waits fronting The Doors. Obviously, this would be a good time for a shot of Jameson\'s.

MONSTA - "Holdin On": SXSW 2013 Showcasing Artist

MONSTA have been described as having the melodic synth thrum of Flux Pavilion, the tech-soul vocal drops of Moby and the reverberant snares of trip hop act U.N.K.L.E -but their sound is largely instrument-based and it was Skrillex who found them. The trio (producers Rocky and Rufio and vocalist Skaar) will release their first EP on the electronic dance music (EDM) star\'s indie imprint OWSLA this Autumn.

La Cuneta Son Machín - "El PateBolsa": SXSW 2013 Showcasing Artist

“La Cuneta Son Machín” is a group of Nicaraguan musicians that decided to come together in the year 2009 and create a band that merges Nicaraguan and Latin American popular music (son de toros, son nica, cumbia, merengue, etc) with new musical currents such as rock, funk and jazz. The creation of this musical and audiovisual project is generating an enormous impact among Nicaraguan youth.

Jonny Fritz - "Chevy Beretta": SXSW 2013 Showcasing Artist

Jonny Fritz (formerly Corndawg) is a country singer, not a singer-songwriter. Born in Montana and raised in rural Virginia, Jonny dropped out of school in 2001 and toured solo for many years on his motorcycle, going on to play shows in every state in the US, along with Australia, Argentina, Canada, India and 11 European countries. However, you won’t find him on your local country radio station; Jonny’s music is more in the vein of that obscure 70s gay country that housewives would discover on a Bear Family reissue in 20 years.
