SXSW Music is proud to announce this year’s Thursday Auditorium Shores show, presented by NPR Music, featuring some of Latin America’s genre-defining artists. Cafe Tacvba makes their SXSW debut on Thursday, March 14th at Auditorium Shores, sharing the stage with Molotov and Bajofondo.

Molotov, best known for their politically charged lyricism, is continually refining their art and crafting new ways to communicate their message. Four Latin-Grammys, five studio albums and one documentary, Gimme The Power, into their career, we still find the group powering through various festival and events around the world.

2013 Showcasing Band, We Are The Grand

SXSW Music and Sounds From Chile will showcase a batch of fresh up-and-comers and established acts from the South American country this year at the Friends bar.

The night’s line-up includes We Are The Grand. WATG holds strong to a very contemporary style of fast-paced indie rock with skilled execution. From catchy guitar riffs to English-sung lyrics, this rock quartet takes inspiration from their North American neighbors and flips it right-side up.

Fossil Collective - "Let It Go": SXSW 2013 Showcasing Artist

Fossil Collective, a two-piece from Leeds, consists of multi instrumentalists David Fendick and Jonny Hooker. Their first recordings saw them taking inspiration from classic albums by Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac and Simon and Garfunkel and suggested comparisons with more contemporary artists such as Fleet Foxes, Midlake and Bon Iver. But in truth their exquisitely structured songs and glorious, rich harmonies owe as much, if not more, to a solid English song tradition, and their material holds that distinct English quality that many North American artists hanker after.

Taj Weekes - "Peace and Love": SXSW 2013 Showcasing Artist

Contemporary reggae takes many forms, some of them bland or ugly or downright destructive. But some encompass art, art as valid as anything from reggae\'s past, as valid as any other present musical genre. This is where Taj Weekes & Adowa\'s music fits in. It represents the most appealing and rewarding manifestation of reggae now being created. Musically, lyrically and rhythmically it not only reflects the best from the past, but urges the genre to higher heights. Taj Weekes & Adowa unite a true social consciousness with an unforgettable reggae groove.

Samantha Crain - "Never Going Back": SXSW 2013 Showcasing Artist

Kid Face, the third full-length album from Samantha Crain (Ramseur Records, February 19, 2013), is a revelatory song cycle as expansive as the wide-open spaces of the 26-year-old artist’s native Oklahoma, and as intimate as a conspiratorial whisper. Recorded and mixed in just eight days in the San Francisco studio of producer John Vanderslice (the Mountain Goats, Spoon), this wildly original album stands as the definitive statement thus far from an uncommonly insightful, fearlessly honest young singer/songwriter.

Scorpion Child - "Polygon Of Eyes": SXSW 2013 Showcasing Artist

Trends in music are cyclical. Every few years something comes along that borrows just enough from the past to make the new exciting again. Scorpion Child produce a sound that hearkens back to when guitar rock ruled the airwaves and made going to a concert the ultimate main event. The five-piece hail from Austin, Texas where they’ve spent the last few years perfecting both their songwriting and stage presence. The outfit features Chris Cowart and David Finner layering high-energy twin-guitars over the band’s pounding rhythms discharged by Shaun Avants (bass) and Shawn Alvear (drums).
