Music Welcomes The Daptone Records Super Soul Revue
Brooklyn’s House of Soul is set to bring The Daptone Records Super Soul Revue to Austin, Tx for the first time. Presented by BMI, the official SXSW showcase will take place on Thursday, March 14 at ACL Live at The Moody Theater and will feature Daptone’s biggest names in a non-stop, all night show.
The label’s first lady and house band Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings will be joined on the bill by “The Screaming Eagle of Soul” Charles Bradley, Staten Island’s afro-soul instrumentalists The Budos Band, cinematic funk & soul sextet Menahan Street Band, organ-driven soul & groove of The Sugarman 3 and a cappella gospel trio The Como Mamas. The Super Soul Revue premiered last November at the Bear Creek Music & Arts Festival in Florida and most recently headlined a night at the Sydney Festival in Australia this past January. The LP Questionnaire/Pick Three - Hugh Padgham

Here's a little secret I must confess... I've had a bit of a crush on Hugh Padgham since the mid-80s when I saw him win a Grammy for - I'd been thinking it was Synchronicity - but if you look at his resumé it could have been for No Jacket Required. Either way, to one girl's fevered teenage mind came the man who was producing all the best music of the era and since then Padgham's career has been varied as he's worked with everyone from Kate Bush to Brian Wilson to Van der Graaf Generator.
These days Hugh hangs out with his famous dog Stanley (who is regularly featured in his wife's design catalogs), continues to produce, and always puts his left shoe on first.
He's coming to SXSW to speak on The Evolution of the Record Producer panel which is full on don't miss, methinks.
