Dude… Can you believe we’re less than two weeks out from SXSW Music?!
Today we’re taking a break from the madness of the upcoming event and dreaming of the coast with four totally awesome surf-rock bands who will be bringing their laid-back vibes to Austin for the festival.
The mind behind this super relaxed psych-folk-rock outfit, Matt Adams, has supposedly recorded ten (or more) unreleased albums - all laid down on a little eight-track tape recorder. Just try not to picture yourself cruisin’ along the California coastline when jamming The Blank Tapes.
RIYL: King Tuff, The Mamas & the Papas
These guys are bringing their blend of surf, psych and punk rock flavors to SXSW all the way from Oslo, Norway. After receiving a Norwegian Grammy nomination for their 2012 album, Death By Unga Bunga released their third studio album, You’re An Animal, in September of last year.
RIYL: The Clash, Atlanter
Tangerine’s sound falls on the more poppy and melodic side of the beach compared to the surf rock bands mentioned above. The songs are upbeat, layered and concise, powered by a sweet female voice, and the band certainly draws on elements from their hometown Seattle music scene.
RIYL: The Vaselines, The Breeders
It’s somewhat hard to believe this band hails from the landlocked city of San Antonio, Texas. The Rich Hands produce a dirty lo-fi garage pop sound - a perfect combination that culminates with some entertaining and gritty surf rock tunes. The band released their debut album, Dreamers, last year and are preparing for their SXSW debut in 2014.
RIYL: Dune Rats, The Delta Riggs
