Photo by Cal Holman.</span> With the end of the year nigh (or *world* as some might say) "Best of 2012" lists are popping up everywhere. [Rolling Stone](http://www.rollingstone.com), [Billboard](http://www.billboard.com), [Pitchfork](http://www.pitchfork.com), [Spinner](http://www.spinner.com/2012/12/07/best-albums-2012/), [The AV Club](http://www.avclub.com/articles/the-best-music-of-2012,89711/) and [Gorilla vs. Bear](http://www.gorillavsbear.net/), just to name a few, are all hosting multiple "Best Ofs." Some have even deigned to include some not so best-ofs as well (see Pitchfork's ["Worst Album Covers"](http://www.pitchfork.com/features/staff-lists/9013-the-worst-album-covers-of-2012/) and AV Club's ["Least Essential Albums"](http://www.avclub.com/articles/the-least-essential-albums-of-2012,89882/)). One of our most favorite takes on the trend has been Brooklyn Vegan's lists compiled by a variety of bands in lieu of staff, critics or sales metrics. Check out who shows up on lists from [Here to We Go Magic](http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2012/12/here_we_go_magi_11.html), [The Pains of Being Pure at Heart](http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2012/12/the_pains_of_be_10.html), [Ex Cops](http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2012/12/ex_cop_cover_mc.html), [Todd Beene of Lucero](http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2012/12/todd_beene_of_l.html), [Dan Deacon](http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2012/12/dan_deacon_made_1.html) and SXSW 2012 darlings [Alabama Shakes](http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2012/11/alabama_shakes_6.html). Who made your favorites list this year? [Come to SXSW Music 2013](/attend) to get a head start on your Best of 2013 lists. And Happy New Year to you all!
