The upcycling program launched at SXSW Eco 2013 with SpinFish Event Solutions was so successful that we are expanding the initiative to this year's SXSW Trade Show. This service enables exhibitors to donate their leftover materials to local community members, giving back to Austin and helping SXSW reach our sustainability goals.
At SXSW Eco almost all exhibitors participated in the program and over 25 unique recipients claimed materials, including nonprofit organizations, artists, business owners and individual community members. More than 1,200 pounds of waste were diverted from the landfill - a 99% diversion rate! Exhibitors reported being grateful that this service was available during load-out.
SXSW will expand the program to the 2014 SXSW Trade Show. All 350+ exhibitors will have the opportunity to participate, free of charge. We anticipate over 10,000 pounds of waste will be diverted, and that thousands of local community members will benefit.
