Peggy Hsu (Chinese name “Xu Zhe-Pei”, born on February 2, 1981) is a Taiwanese singer-songwriter, music composer and music producer. She is also the founder and lead vocalist/keyboardist of the band “Le Cirque”.
Peggy Hsu is an amazing all-rounder. Her lovely songs may have a touch of childlike whimsy. The multi-talented Peggy actually composed her first song at the tender age of 8.
After she finished her high school in Vancouver at age 19, Peggy Hsu uploaded the demo of her own composition named “Balloon” to the Chinese largest digital music website. That track had the highest number of hits and earned her a contract with one of the largest multinational record company in Taiwan. She become the first Chinese singer having music video filmed in Iceland. Subsequently, the album with the same title created a storm in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia; selling Platinum in each territory. Thanks to her inimitable signature music style, 6 of her critically acclaimed albums have already won her many awards all over Asia.
Her star shone especially brightly at the Taiwan Golden Melody Awards – an equivalent of America’s Grammy Awards in Great China area – where she won music awards including the “Best Newcomer” and two times of “Best Album Producer”. In 2006, she studied jazz vocal at Berklee College of Music, which led her co-op with many talented jazz musicians while producing music.
Since 2009 she published her own music independently and now she is working closely with Wonder Music, a widely recognized Taiwanese indie record label signed Tizzy Bac, Wonfu and Cosmopeople. She has also written, composed and produced a large number of songs for other Mandarin artists. .
On 26, July 2003, Peggy formed a band called “Le Cirque” . “Le Cirque” . The band was first introduced in Peggy’s Riverside gig and featured in Peggy’s 2010 album “Le Cirque: I “ . Over the past few years, Peggy had hundreds of sold-out concerts across Asia cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Wuhan, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Singapore...
Besides of her popularity in Chinese community, she constantly invited by oversea festival and venues such as Plaza of Nations Vancouver, Harbourfront Center Toronto, Liverpool Sound City Festival... The co-founder of Sire Records / legendary Mr. Seymour Stein gave high option of her gig in 2011 Liverpool Sound City. Peggy is also selected by 2013 SXSW. Instrumentation
