This past event, the South By Music Festival was lucky enough to make California-based indie record label and store, Burger Records, officially part of the SXSW family. Presenting two nights of music on Austin's hip East Side at Hotel Vegas and The Volstead, the label showcased awesome indie and rock acts including Jaill, Natural Child, Jacuzzi Boys, and Warm Soda. Founded roughly in 2007 by friends Sean Bohrman and Lee Rickard, the grassroots operation has released albums from groundbreaking groups such as OFF!, Black Lips, King Khan & The Shrines, Ty Segall, Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Thee Oh Sees. Perhaps their most impressive feat in the world of music, however, has been their ability to bring about a resurgence in cassette tapes, having sold more than 100,000 since their start six years ago.
In roughly two and a half weeks, Burger Records will begin their US and Canadian fall tour, Burgerama: Caravan of the Stars Tour 2013, which will showcase Backbeat favorite, The Growlers, as well as Cosmonauts, Gap Dream, and Together Pangea. Included stops are Denver's landmark Bluebird Theater and NYC's Bowery Ballroom. You can check out a full list of dates and locations here.
As mentioned, Costa Mesa goth-rock band The Growlers will be headlining the tour. The group has already had a busy 2013 since their third LP release at the beginning of this year, having done a European tour in April, swinging through Outside Lands this past August, and also having played a gig with infamous band, The Flaming Lips. We're also excited to add that they released a short video of the band in the studio on their official Facebook page last week with the promise of new songs coming soon.
Tune into SXSWfm's rock specialty show The Backbeat this week to hear The Growlers, as well as other Burger artists, Mikal Cronin and Useless Eaters. The Backbeat airs every Tuesday at 6am, 12pm, and 6pm CDT; Wednesday at 12am CDT; and Saturday at 11pm CDT.
