Strangers - "Persona Non Grata": SXSW 2013 Showcasing Artist

Growing up in and around Sydney's southern beaches isn't easy. As a general rule you have three options: You can surf, become a DJ or leave. Shitty choices if all you like doing is playing guitars and pounding drums. With the dire thought of becoming a bunch of disc spinning, fake tanned roidheads seeded deep in their psyche, five guys rallied together, branded themselves STRANGERS and began writing gritty rock anthems for the masses.

Spain - "Spiritual": SXSW 2013 Showcasing Artist

Josh Haden, son of bass-playing jazz great Charlie Haden, founded Spain in Los Angeles in 1993. Their debut, The Blue Moods Of Spain, was released on Restless Records in 1995. Born from the same L.A. alternative rock scene in the early 1990s that gave rise to Beck, Weezer, and that dog., Spain's music was a response to the then-current inundation of loud, aggressive guitar rock. With Blue Moods, Spain became aligned with the "slowcore" subgenre along with bands like Low and Red House Painters, but their sound drew equally from West Coast jazz, rhythm and blues, country and '60s soul.

Sóley - "I'll Drown": SXSW 2013 Showcasing Artist

"Iceland's new dark pop princess." MTV Iggy

Iceland's Soley Stefansdottir, or just Soley, has caused quite a stir in 2012. Since her first solo release 'Theater Island EP' in 2010 and the follow-up album 'We Sink' in 2011, she has built an international reputation and devoted fanbase with her delicate melodies and beautifully dark lyrics. The soundtrack to lucid dreams and childhood nightmares, Soley wouldn't be out of place in the dark fairytale world of Tim Burton.
