Anderson, who grew up in Houston, Texas and is an alumnus of UT-Austin, joined a Richard Linklater-hosted Q&A along with actor Jason Schwartzman and music supervisor Randy Poster after the special screening of The Grand Budapest Hotel, which at that point had just had a limited release in New York and Los Angeles. The film went on to be nominated for Academy Awards in the Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay categories and won four Oscars (for Best Costume Design, Production Design, Original Score and Makeup & Hairstyling). Anderson returned to SXSW Film in 2018 to unveil Isle of Dogs with both a screening and a conference session, not to mention an impromptu street poetry reading by Bill Murray.
