Showcasing a Community of Innovators Through the Lens of Food

In its third year, SouthBites™ Convergence Track brings together the food community's most inspired speakers, chefs, filmmakers and enthusiasts to connect and explore ways in which technology can be leveraged to transform the food industry.

SouthBites channels the key SXSW principles of creativity, community and innovation to form a comprehensive program complete with panel talks, mixers, films, meet ups, and more. From system-level, agricultural innovations to tech startups geared towards helping foodies easily discover and support the food landscape around them, we'll host it all.

2016 Highlights include culinary heavy-hitters like American chef and raconteur Anthony Bourdain and food critic with one of the world's most diverse palates Andrew Zimmern. You can expect even more names to be added to the 2016 lineup which you can browse below.

SouthBites runs March 12-14, 2016


SouthBites programming will run Saturday, March 12 – Monday, March 14.


Most conference programming for SouthBites will occur at the Driskill Hotel and Featured Sessions will occur at the Austin Convention Center.


You must have a 2016 SXSW Interactive, Film, Music, Gold or Platinum badge to attend SouthBites 2016 conference programming and events. Register for your badge today.

SouthBites Dinner Series

Sunday, March 13 – With the help from our pals over at Williams-Sonoma, we’re hosting what promises to be the meal of a lifetime! This intimate dinner features a rich menu curated by esteemed chefs Enrique Olvera (Cosme) & Paul Qui (Qui). Get your ticket now.

Monday, March 14 – We keep the party going on night two with Ludo Lefebvre (Trois Mec) and Alex Stupak (Empellon) accompanying Paul Qui in the kitchen for a KitchenAid hosted evening of food and fun. Tickets available here.

Tuesday, March 15 – Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Jose Andres and a super group of past and present ThinkFoodGroup chefs are collaborating to present an unforgettable meal. Secure your seat now.

SouthBites Trailer Park

In addition to the 30 talks that will take place at the Driskill Hotel, there will be a number of special events to complement the program. We’ll welcome back the 4th annual SouthBites Trailer Park, rooted in celebration of Austin’s iconic food trailer culture and celebrating good food everywhere. This year will feature some of the best rolling-restaurants around.

Trade Show: Future of Food Pavilion

The Future of Food Pavilion showcases the latest, cutting-edge FoodTech product and services that are working to reinvent the food system for the modern world. SXSW, as part of the SouthBites Convergence program, has selected a group of 14 leading companies to demonstrate technology that will change the way the world eats or drinks. Come experience the best of what science and technology can do when applied to the most important problem in the world – feeding people better food.
