On the heels of SXSW Film’s teaser announcement earlier today (which includes FOX’s relaunch of the iconic COSMOS: A SpaceTime Odyssey), we are honored to now reveal the Saturday keynote presentation for the 2014 SXSW Interactive Festival.
Legendary astrophysicist, author and science communicator Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson will participate in a special keynote interview on Saturday, March 8 at 2:00 pm in the afternoon.
Much like the growing number of exoplanets, Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson’s accomplishments are too numerous to list. After being inspired and mentored by the late Carl Sagan, Tyson earned his BA in Physics from Harvard and his PhD in Astrophysics from Columbia. Among Tyson's ten books are his memoir, The Sky is Not the Limit: Adventures of an Urban Astrophysicist, The Pluto Files: The Rise and Fall of America’s Favorite Planet, and the New York Times best-sellers Death By Black Hole, and Space Chronicles, Facing the Ultimate Frontier.
Tyson is the recipient of 19 honorary doctorates and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal. His contributions to the public appreciation of the cosmos have been recognized by the International Astronomical Union in their official naming of asteroid “13123 Tyson”. In 2007, Time magazine selected Tyson as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Tyson hosts the popular radio show and podcast called “StarTalk,” and he is the first scientist to attract more than a million Twitter followers. He is currently the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space.
Join us on Saturday, March 8 in Exhibit Hall 5 of the Austin Convention Center when Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson will enlighten and inspire with unique insights regarding the Universe that surrounds us. Take advantage of this moment in spacetime -- register for an Interactive, Gold or Platinum badge before rates increase at the end of the day on Friday, January 10.
Other keynotes for the 2014 SXSW Interactive Festival include Austin Kleon (Friday, March 7); Anne Wojcicki (Sunday, March 9); and Adam Savage (Monday, March 10). Stay tuned to this site in the next few weeks for the announcement of the special Tuesday, March 11 keynote.
