Mission Statement for SXSW Interactive: Creativity, Innovation and Inspiration

The values of innovation, inspiration and creativity shape everything that we do at the SXSW Interactive Festival. Innovation means that we try to showcase up-and-coming technologies and industry leaders at SXSW. Inspiration means that we always aim for programming that will enliven, energize and excite SXSW attendees. Creativity means that the event is ultimately less about shiny new apps and sleek new apps than it is about sharing new ideas.

As organizers, we understand the importance of the community in improving the overall quality of the event at the SXSW Interactive Festival. The PanelPicker is a manifestation of this commitment to the community. This innovative interface allows anyone from the digital creative community to suggest programming ideas — not just the so-called tech industry experts. The PanelPicker also empowers anyone in the community to vote on which suggested ideas should be part of the event (and to explain their vote via comments). Our commitment to community values also shines with the Dewey Winburne Community Service Awards, as well as the various social good sessions that we program during the event.

Finally, we acknowledge that SXSW Interactive is always a work-in-progress. Every year, we tinker with the formula and the event continues to improve. But every year we also discover more elements that need re-thinking and re-working. Many of the best improvements at SXSW Interactive come as a result of community input from engaged people such as yourself. If you have ideas on changes that we can implement to make the event better, then please contact us at this address.
