SXsports programming runs March 7 through March 9

As we round out the fantastic events for the first edition of the SXsports Convergence track at SXSW March 7-9, we’re excited to announce the latest batch of sessions, led by cycling legend Greg LeMond. LeMond, a three-time Tour De France winner, will address the “physiology of cycling, its beauty and the suffering that goes hand-in-hand with the sport.” His Featured Session “The Power of Cycling” will occur at 9:30 am in Ballroom D of the Austin Convention Center on Saturday, March 8.

Programming also new to the SXsports field includes a presentation from RJ Bell of Pregame.com on sports gambling making its way from the backrooms to the mainstream, a session on social media use from active athletes by Richard Ayers of Seven League, and a session on the freediving experience of Tanya Streeter.

In addition to new sessions added to the SXsports lineup, more speakers have joined some already confirmed programming. Eric Weinberg, Executive Producer at the NFL Network, and Jon Miller, President of Programming at NBC Sports, have joined the “24-Hour Sports in the Age of Bite-Sized Content” panel. WWE superstar John Cena returns to SXSW to speak on the SXsports panel “Crushing Second Screen: The Ultimate TV Companion”. Grantland’s Kirk Goldsberry, Adir Shiffman of Catapult Sports and Menlo College Professor of Sports Management Ben Alamar round out the session, “The Future of Sports Can Be Found in the Data.” Additionally, the panel “Heads Up: Concussions in Sports” will feature former NFL player and current President of the NFL Players Association Dominique Foxworth, founder of The Sports Legacy Institute Chris Nowinski and COO of Head Rehab Craig Anderson.

Official SXSW Film Festival screenings are also a big part of SXsports. Break Point, a comedy about an estranged pair of brothers reuniting for an improbable run at a grand slam, has already been announced as one of the participating films. The remaining titles premiering as part of the SXsports program will be announced on January 30 with the complete features lineup.

But it doesn’t stop there! Several evening events will take place after sessions conclude for the day, starting with the SXsports Kick-Off Reception Presented by Octagon on Friday, March 7, and wrapping up with the “SXsports Overtime Party presented by FOX Sports” on Sunday evening, March 9.

Remember, all SXsports events are open to SXSW Interactive, Film, Gold and Platinum registrants, so make sure to buy your badge today.
