Welcome to Four on the Floor, SXSW Music's guide to some of the many many fine acts we have in store for you next March.
As the lineup for SXSW 2014 takes shape, we’re beginning to notice some patterns here and there. Today we fade to black with four artists whose sounds aren't necessarily as dark as their names.
A duo that makes straight up rock ‘n’ roll. Although they started in Toronto, Canada, the band relocated to Austin, Texas in 2009, and they’ve been melting the locals’ faces ever since.
RIYL: Gary Clark Jr., Patrick Sweany, Buffalo Killers
Blackbear is a pop artist from Los Angeles who co-wrote Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend,” but his solo stuff presents a much more diverse sound.
RIYL: Tillian, Tyler Carter, F.O.
Formed in 2009, Americana band The Black Lillies have already performed at Bonnaroo, the Americana Music Festival, the CMA Festival, and more.
RIYL: Darrell Scott, William Elliott Whitmore, Justin Townes Earle
New Zealand duo Black City Lights produce dark, electronic pop music. The pair released their debut album, entitled Another Life, earlier this year.
RIYL: Braids, oOooOO, Annie Lennox
