Co-founders, DJ Richard and Young Male, formed White Material in the summer of 2012. Fast forwarding to present day, this techno record label, which is just getting started, has placed itself in high demand.
Based out of Brooklyn and Berlin, White Material pulls together a techno, experimental, and house collective sound that reflects the passion and curiosity of their artists. So far, White Material has released four records to date, including work from Galcher Lustwerk, Young Male, DJ Richard, and a collaborative effort of all three in White Material.
Named Resident Advisor’s label of the month in November 2013, White Material can’t seem to keep their four records in stock. Anywhere. "While it’s only released three records so far, it’s quickly established itself as a label of note,” said Michael Aniser in an interview piece with DJ Richard published by Electronic Beats.
A review of the collective's fourth 12-inch had this to say about the record: “This sense of togetherness was strengthened on the label's fourth 12-inch, released under the collective name White Material. Listen closely and you can tell who's behind each track, but anonymity isn't the aim: 'It's about showing unity and a shared vision as a crew.'" White Material participated in a podcast for Beats in Space last week - you can listen here.
