After his 2010 breakthrough album The Reluctant Graveyard, Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter Jeremy Messersmith is back with a new album, Heart Murmurs, due out this Tuesday, February 4th. This marks his first release on Glassnote Records, home to artists such as Childish Gambino, Chvrches, Mumford and Sons, and Phoenix.
Unlike Messersmith’s past albums that explored themes of growing up, grief and death, Heart Murmurs is a collection of love songs. "The new record is all songs about love,” Jeremy has said. “I’ve been sort of baffled for awhile, like, wait a second, what is that exactly? I’m still really confused by it."
The first single, “Tourniquet,” dropped back in November and received great praise. Stephen Thompson of NPR raved about it saying, “He’s relentlessly committed to making these rich, lush, pretty pop songs and he does it incredibly well…” Time Magazine featured Jeremy as one of 14 Artists to Watch in 2014. Just last week, NPR gave Heart Murmurs a First Listen, and Rolling Stone premiered the video for his newest single, “Ghost”.
