SXSW 2014 Band: Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger

With only a few days left of SXSW music, here are some bands and showcases you don’t want to miss:

The MetalSucks showcase today, Friday, March 14th, is sure to rock your night. Starting at 7:30pm you can catch East Of The Wall, Whores, Mutoid Man, After The Burial, Ringworm, and Animals As Leaders all at the Dirty Dog Bar (505 E 6th St).

Wanting to broaden your musical horizons? The Norway Night showcase will feature bands from different genres of music including pop, electronic, and rock. Only something as special as patriotism could bring all these genres together for an awesome night at the Icenhauer's on Rainey Street.

Albert Hammond Jr., lead singer of The Strokes, will perform his solo work during the Pandora Discovery Den showcase tomorrow at The Gatsby (708 E 6th St) at 11pm. Hammond, who released a five-song EP in October of 2013, just finished touring with Jake Bugg.

Over at Hype Hotel (505 E 7th St), Ernest Greene will perform under his stage name, Washed Out. Other acts on the Hype Hotel bill Saturday night include Gary Numan, A.G. Cook, and Sophie.

Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl’s critically acclaimed band Ghost of the Saber Tooth Tiger (GOASTT) will perform at the Palm Door at 8pm Saturday, March 15th. Originally a duo, Lennon and Muhl recently added a keyboardist, drummer, and guitarist to form a 5-piece electronic rock band.

Preview some of these showcases on SXSWfm’s specialty rock show, The Backbeat, airs Fridays at 6 & 12 CST. Tune in here on your mobile device or desktop, or download the iOS or Android app here.
