Former SXSW Showcasing Artist Darden Smith

Veteran Austin musician Darden Smith has just released his 14th album, Love Calling, featured this week on Americana World Headquarters. Darden was signed to Epic Records at the first SXSW Music Conference and Festival in 1987.

In a career that has included pop hits, as well as compositions for dance and even a symphony, Darden has spent the past decade working to inspire young students to use their creativity through the Be An Artist program. That lead to another collaborative program called SongwritingWith, which has included working with U.S. military veterans returning from combat, with homeless young adults at a shelter in New Jersey and with African villagers affected by HIV and AIDS.

The new album includes songwriting collaborations with artists like Radney Foster, Gary Nicholson and Jack Ingram. Darden celebrates the release of Love Calling with a special show at the Stateside at the Paramount here in Austin this Friday evening.
