Program Director

 

Attorney Nels Jacobson has practiced in the areas of trademark, copyright, and entertainment law since 1996. He is licensed in California, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, and as a patent attorney. He has done stints with firms in San Francisco, Nashville, and Detroit, and was Assistant Director of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology at the UC-Berkeley School of Law. His law review article “Who Put the Bomp (in the Bomp ba Bomp ba Bomp)? A Question of Authorship, Copyright, and Digital Sampling” won National Second Prize in ASCAP’s 1994 Nathan Burkan Competition. After graduating Order of the Coif, law review, and magna cum laude from the University of Houston Law Center, Nels served as a law clerk to the Honorable Carolyn Dineen King, Circuit Judge with the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He was art director for SXSW during its first six years (1987-1992), and founded the SXSW CLE program in 1998.
