The annual Austin Music Awards presented by The Austin Chronicle honor the very best of Austin’s thriving local music scene each year during SXSW. The 2017 Austin Music Awards take place on Sunday, March 12 at Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater.

2017 Austin Music Awards


The Austin Music Awards honor our local music community, recognizing Austin artists who have made an impact in recording and performance over the course of the year during SXSW. In addition to music-specific categories, the Austin Music Awards honor industry-specific categories such as Best New Club, Best Music Booker, and Best Music Support Nonprofit.

The 2017 Austin Music Awards will take place on Sunday, March 12 at Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater, with proceeds benefiting the SIMS Foundation. The show will be hosted by Laurie Gallardo and Rick McNulty of KUTX. SXSW Music and Platinum badgeholders will be able to attend.

Join us in celebrating our 35th year with music by:

  • Texas Songwriters performance by Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, and Kat Edmonson, and more
  • Femmes for SIMS featuring: The Trishas, Kelly Willis, Erika Wennerstrom, The Bluebonnets, Jackie Venson, Carolyn Wonderland and LouLou (of Thievery Corporation and Night Glitter)
  • Fab 5 Freddy presenting a one-of-a-kind collaboration with Grammy winners Grupo Fantasma, featuring Jai Malano, Brownout, and Sabrina Ellis (of Sweet Spirit and A Giant Dog)
  • Performances come backed by Austin Music Awards Musical Director Charlie Sexton and Mayor Adler’s House Band – Michael Ramos, Conrad Choucroun, and George Reiff
  • An opening blessing and performance by The New Generation Children’s Choir

Special Awards:

  • The first-ever Townes Van Zandt Award will be presented to musician and artist Terry Allen, who will perform with Joe Ely and other special guests
  • Rose Reyes, honoree of the Margaret Moser Award celebrating a trailblazer in the music industry.
