Go Behind the Scenes of the World Premiere of Jordan Peele’s Us at SXSW 2019 [Video]

"I've always had the fear of seeing another me and so I thought about what that was about and what the relevance of that was." - Jordan Peele

From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele (Get Out) comes Us which made its World Premiere as the Opening Night Film of SXSW 2019. Haunted by an unexplainable trauma from her past and compounded by a string of eerie coincidences, Adelaide Wilson (Lupita Nyong’o) grows increasingly certain that something bad is going to befall her family. After a day with friends, the Wilsons return to their vacation home to discover the silhouettes of four figures standing in their driveway. Us pits an ordinary American family against a terrifying opponent: doppelgängers of themselves.

During the Q&A, Peele explains his intentions of the film: "I have a very clear meaning and commentary I'm trying to strike with this film. I also wanted to design a film that is very personal for every individual. On the broader strokes of things, this movie is about this country. When I decided to write this movie, I was stricken with the fact that we are in a time where we fear the other. Whether it's the mysterious invader that we think is gonna come and kill us or take our jobs, or the faction that we don't live near that voted a different way than us..."

"We are all about pointing the finger and I wanted to suggest, maybe the monster that we really need to look at has our face; maybe the evil is us." – Jordan Peele

Us features an all-star cast including Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Anna Diop, Evan Alex, Shahadi Wright-Joseph, Madison Curry, and Cali Sheldon.
