SXSW Conversation: Anthony Bourdain with Nathan Thornburgh
Already a celebrity chef, Bourdain’s profile increased in 2000 with his best-selling memoir, Kitchen Confidential. He later became a celebrity host for popular television travel shows, including Parts Unknown on CNN and No Reservations on the Travel Channel, which sought to debunk the exclusivity and snobbishness of high-end foodie culture by celebrating pleasures like local street food. Bourdain’s SXSW appearance was enthusiastically received, and many were devastated by his untimely death in 2018.
