The book is a collection of origin stories that tell the history of Austin’s emergence as a creative city and a vital hub of all things alternative, including the Armadillo World Headquarters, Austin City Limits, the Austin Film Society, South Congress Avenue, Esther’s Follies, Franklin BBQ, and the Cathedral of Junk.

Patoski was a participant in the very first South By Southwest in 1987 and has been active in the event ever since. His book details South By Southwest’s humble beginnings and follows its rise and expansion embracing film and interactive as well as music to become the event that it is today.
