“At the end of the day it is a horror film, but at the heart of it, it’s an intense story about loss.” – Amy Seimetz
Directed by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer and based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.
Like any adaptation, there are bound to be changes from the book to the big screen.
“To Stephen King’s credit, we are obviously living in another Renaissance right now. The thing he’s always said about adaptations is that he actually respects when filmmakers bring their own vision to it…it was really validating for us when he saw the film and was such a fan of it because he saw that we kept the essence of the novel.” – Co-director Dennis Widmyer
