SXSW Film has been credited with providing the setting for the launch of the "mumblecore" film movement during the mid-2000s, in which the Duplass brothers (Jay and Mark) were central figures. Over the years, even as their early indie productions became higher-profile and higher budget, they brought their new films to screen at SXSW. By 2016, they were well-known in Hollywood as writers, directors, producers, and actors and discussed their shared journey in this session.
