"The East" at SXSW 2013 Film - Intrigue Abounds

Written by Linda Park | Wednesday, May 29, 2013

SXSW's closing night film The East weaves a clever tale of eco terrorism and intrigue while asking questions about where we are as a consumer society today.

It's tempting to go on a bit about Alexander Skarsgård (and yes, he's shirtless... at times), but with standout performances from the entire cast, including Brit Marling (who also co-wrote the film) and Ellen Page, this sophomore effort by the team of director Zal Batmanglij and Marlin is a great step forward following their debut film, Sound of My Voice.

The East will have you wondering who the good guys really are and just who's trying to save the world.

We were lucky enough to have Batmanglij and the cast here for the festival. Please enjoy this clip from the screening Q&A along with the trailer for the film, which opens this Friday, May 31.
