2013 SXSW Video Content: Esther Dyson Explains Her Search for the New and the Innovative

Written by Hugh Forrest | August 8, 2013

Few women in the tech industry have accomplished as much as Esther Dyson. As president of ED Ventures, she nurtures startups -- some of her more high-profile investment positions include companies such as 23andMe, Facebook, Evernote, LinkedIn, Square, and Yandex. More recently, these investments have focused on health care, human capital and aerospace. A former journalist, Dyson trained as a backup cosmonaut in Moscow in 2008 and 2009.

2013 marked the first year that this accomplished industry expert brought her expertise to the SXSW Interactive Festival. Watch her fascinating interview with Christine Lagorio, the Executive Editor of Inc Magazine below. Much of this interview talks about her drive to find what is new and innovative -- in her personal life and in her investment strategy: "I don't like wasting things and I don't like redundant effort. It offends me when people do useless work. I'm not that interested in video sharing for rich white guys. But helping people with e-commerce in Africa is a lot of fun."
