Featured Sessions at the 2014 SXSW Interactive Festival showcase some of the world’s most innovative thinkers. Today’s installment of the Featured Session Feature focuses on Randi Zuckerberg of Zuckerberg Media and Dot Complicated. At SXSW, she will be part of the “Are We All Producers Now?” session on Sunday afternoon, March 9 at 3:30 pm.
Entrepreneurship is in the blood of Randi Zuckerberg. Before launching two internet-based businesses and signing on as an author with HarperCollins, she was the Director of Market Development and Spokeswoman at Facebook. Today, she’s the founder and CEO of Zuckerberg Media and Editor-In-Chief of Dot Complicated, a digital lifestyle website.
After graduating from Harvard in 2003, Randi began her early career in the advertising world at Ogilvy & Mather, and later joined the business analysis program Forbes on Fox as a production assistant. In 2005, she became an executive in Facebook’s marketing program.
While at Facebook, Randi spearheaded a number of media projects, including “Vote 2010,” a partnership with ABC News which showcased the mid-term election on the social networking site. She also led Facebook Live, a branch of the company dedicated to providing interesting live streaming video coverage and high-profile interviews to the masses. Randi was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2011 for her innovative working integrating online and TV coverage of the 2010 midterm elections.
Her exuberant personality and passion for business have helped steer her career in an interesting new direction. After years of working in marketing and public relations for Facebook, Randi resigned in 2011 to pursue her own dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. Last year she launched Zuckerberg Media, a video production company dedicated to producing digital video content for corporate clients. Some of Randi’s clients include BeachMint, The Clinton Global Initiative, Cirque du Soleil, the United Nations, Condé Nast and Bravo.
Last fall, Randi published two books with HarperCollins. The first, Dot Complicated, takes an in-depth look at how technology and social media have become an integral part of our lives. The book addresses important issues related to interpersonal communication, connection, and privacy. Randi also wrote a children’s book, Dot, which is about a young girl who brings the world around her to life using technology and her active imagination. She’s also the author of Spark Your Career in Advertising.
Randi was recently named on Hollywood Reporter’s “50 Digital Power Players.” She’s spoken at major conferences on topics related to social media and technology. She also is a frequent contributor and guest expert to major publications around the world. She lives with her husband, Brent, and son, Asher, in Silicon Valley.
