Speed Dating with SXSW 2020 Punk / Post-Punk Showcasing Artists

From five-piece acts returning to their roots of Chinese folk melodies to self-proclaimed “Kentucky-fried queerdos,” this year’s group of Punk / Post-Punk artists joining us at the SXSW Music Festival is one you won’t want to miss.

Dive into these artists’ stories below and click the photo to listen to our Spotify and Apple Music Disorder Playlist highlighting some of our favorite Punk / Post-Punk acts this year.

All My Friends Hate Me

All My Friends Hate Me is the self deprecating lovechild of punk riffs and a lifetime of bad relationships. The group was formed in combat to the SoundCloud rap cultural zeitgeist in Los Angeles. Their first single titled “Start Again” was released soon after as an ode to each band member moving LA to create something real after their independent touring experiences.

Their first album Metal Butterflies was released November 2019. They want to come to Austin this spring to play a set that makes people feel the way they felt when members Bobby, Beau, Garrit, and Cory picked up their respective instruments for the first time.

Cable Ties

Melbourne-based trio Cable Ties take the three minute punk burner and stretch it past breaking point to deliver smouldering feminist anthems. Their songs take the anxieties most of us push down in modern life and create a raging war cry, inviting us to sing along. The group is composed of vocals from Jenny McKechnie and rhythms from Shauna Boyle and Nick Brown.

The band explores issues of gendered violence, colonialism, and sexual assault and is involved with organizations that politically align. Cable Ties has toured with bands such as The Kills, Joan Jett, Amyl & the Sniffers, and more and are sure to make some noise at SXSW.

GRLwood

GRLwood is made up of two self-proclaimed “Kentucky-fried queerdos” who met in August of 2017. The punk duo is based in Louisville, Kentucky where they have built a community around their explosive live performances and rebellion against the status quo.

Their second album, I Sold My Soul to the Devil When I Was 12 was released last August and the band has been touring since.
