HAAM Benefit Day is less than a week away! Today, we’re focusing on the amazingly talented group that will be kicking off SXSWfm’s HAAM Benefit Day Showcase, The Peterson Brothers Band from Bastrop, Texas.
Comprised of teenagers, Alex on bass and Glenn Jr. on guitar, The Peterson Brothers will bring a soul-infused blues sound to the historic bandstand at Wooldridge Square Park. Don’t let the young age of these guys fool you: the band has already taken home an Austin Music Award and has been tearing up the national festival circuit, including appearances at Chicago Blues Festival and The King Biscuit Festival. The brothers are also making an appearance at the ACL Music Festival during the first weekend in October.
The Peterson Brothers aren’t just taking home awards and jamming out at music festivals across the country, they’re also sharing the stage with legends. The brothers have performed with Buddy Guy and have opened for B.B. King. That should tell you enough about how far The Peterson Brothers Band have come in such a short time (they aren’t even out of high school yet). Bottom line: these guys can flat out play. See for yourself below.
Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell will proclaim this coming October 3rd “Peterson Brothers Day” in the city of Austin, an honor that is certainly well-deserved. More details on that here. Currently, the boys are working on a debut album with veteran producer Michael Freeman (whose credits include Pinetop Perkins and Willie ”Big Eyes” Smith’s Grammy and Blues Music Award winning album Joined At The Hip) and preparing for the upcoming ACL Festival.
Meanwhile, Austinites can see them perform live for free this coming Tuesday, September 24, at Wooldridge Square Park (9th & Guadalupe) at 6:00pm as part of HAAM Benefit Day. Miller Lite will be providing beer for a recommended donation and there will be a silent auction that includes prizes such as ACL 3-day wristbands, SXSW 2014 Music wristbands, and more! All of the details can be found here.
