Education's most energetic and innovative leaders from all backgrounds of the learning landscape converge at SXSWedu every March to connect, collaborate, create and change how we teach and learn. An exciting wave of news and programming additions for the 2014 Conference & Festival have already been revealed in recent weeks. Here's a quick recap of all the goodness that has unfolded thus far:
200+ Compelling Sessions and Workshops Accepted
After months of community collaboration and review, a compelling array of session and workshop programming has unfolded. The daytime sessions and workshops, which account for a large bulk of the conference programming at the event, encompass a dynamic range of themes and topics designed to challenge the passionate leaders at SXSWedu to rethink and reimagine the world of teaching and learning.
Initial Featured Speaker Lineup Revealed
The first group of thought-provoking Featured Speakers for SXSWedu 2014 have been revealed. Broadly aligned with trending topics and themes, these celebrated voices represent a range of education voices and perspectives. The featured lineup includes: Jack Andraka, Diane Ravitch, Nolan Bushnell, Rod Paige, Wendy Kopp and Alberto Carvalho.
Free Education Expo Event Announced for 2014
The SXSWedu Education Expo - a free and open to the public event celebrating the Central Texas community's hunger and passion for lifelong learning, from cradle to career and beyond - will take place on Tuesday, March 4, during SXSWedu 2014.
eduFILM Early Release of Films
Three films selected to screen as part of eduFILM were revealed in the initial SXSWedu programming announcement. eduFILM offers SXSWedu attendees a rare look at prevalent topics and themes surrounding education today through documentary films and post-screening panels. The initial announcement included: American Promise, We The Parents and Once in a Lullaby: The PS22 Chorus Story.
LAUNCHedu 2014 Emcees Announced
A dynamic educator and innovative entrepreneur have been confirmed as LAUNCHedu 2014 Co-Emcees. Peter Nilsson, English Teacher and Assistant Dean of Faculty at Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, and Pathbrite CEO, Heather Hiles will join forces on stage during the exciting LAUNCHedu education startup competition.
Makerspace Returning Bigger & Better as the SXSWedu Playground
The SXSWedu Playground is an exciting evolution of the Makerspace, which debuted last year at SXSWedu, was revealed. The Playground encompasses maker, STEM education, gaming, arts and more in an interactive space designed to celebrate and explore the creative side of learning.
