Brenda passed away on Saturday, September 29 in Austin following a long, heroic battle with cancer. Her passion for music and the people who created it led to a position as Panels Coordinator for SXSW from 1988-1992 – the lean, early years when a comparative handful of people worked insanely long hours putting the event together.

Brenda was instrumental in developing SXSW’s conference programming, particularly the lively, informal formats that gave the event its reputation as a place to learn about the issues affecting musicians and the music industry. She went on to work with labels, producers, and management companies in various cities around the world. Brenda’s energy, intelligence and wit left a lasting impression on us all.

She is survived by her fiancé, Mark Newman (17 years) of Austin, her cat, DasherJustDasher and extended family. A memorial and celebration of Brenda’s life will take place at 4:30 pm on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Lake Hills Church, 11431 Bee Caves Rd, Austin, TX.
