Labor Day weekend is right around the corner which brings about Bumbershoot's 42nd year running. The nonprofit music and arts festival will take place on both indoor and outdoor stages at the Seattle Center August 31st-September 2nd. SXSW alum and Backbeat favorites Baroness, Superchunk, FIDLAR, and The Men will all be performing.
UK indie rockers and Backbeat regulars, Alt-J, hold one of the headlining spots. The band has had an incredibly busy 2013 touring schedule that includes two nights at the Fox Theater in Oakland this week and carries on through the beginning of October, hitting a number of US cities and finally ending in Cape Town, South Africa. They will return to Austin to perform at Stubb's alongside Lord Huron on September 28th.
One of The Backbeat's featured artists this week, The Joy Formidable, will also be performing at Bumbershoot. They too are currently on tour to promote their 2013 LP, Wolf's Law, as well as their July EP release, Silent Treatment. You can catch them doing a number of shows with Passion Pit through mid-November. The Welsh trio will also swing through Austin this October for both weekends of Austin City Limits, in addition to a scheduled Official ACL Late Night Show with The Black Angels at Emo's.
Seattle local label and past SXSW presenter Barsuk Records will also be curating a day of acts from its roster in celebration of its 15th anniversary, with perhaps the biggest addition being headliner Death Cab for Cutie, who have agreed to play their 2003 record, Transatlanticism, in its entirety. You can check out Bumbershoot's full 2013 lineup here.
Check out some of these artists and more on this week’s episode of The Backbeat, SXSWfm’s indie rock specialty show. The Backbeat airs every Tuesday at 6am, 12pm, and 6pm CDT; Wednesdays at 12am CDT; and Saturdays at 11pm CDT.
