From the Lennings to MC Frontalot to the Gregory Brothers, excellent music is a major part of the show. 2013 is no different as we're excited to announce that the Austin Steamers will play the pre-party at the 16th annual SXSW Interactive Awards Ceremony. The Austin Steamers is a star-studded group of Texas gentlemen that know their way around the strings and compliment their sound with soulful harmonies. The band formed in December 2011 and has been doing a Friday night residency at Austin's very own White Horse Honky Tonk ever since. Featuring Sean Tracey, from Alaska, on guitar and harmonica, Ben Hodges, from Mississippi, on mandolin, Joe Sundell, from Arkansas, on banjo, Daniel Zeh, from North Carolina, on upright bass, and everyone on vocals. The Steamers perform a variety of original and traditional material in the styles of bluegrass, country, and swing, owing quite a debt to the 100-year-old tradition of the American string band, all the while maintaining a contemporary edge and relevant style. The Austin Steamers will play at the SXSW Interactive Awards Ceremony pre-party, kicking off at 6:00pm in the Austin Grand Ballroom on the sixth floor of the Hilton Austin Downtown (500 E 4th St) on Tuesday, March 12. Then join us for the Interactive Awards Ceremony hosted by Aisha Tyler, where food and drinks will be served and winners of the SXSW Interactive Awards will be announced. The Interactive Awards Ceremony and pre-party are open to all SXSW Interactive, Gold and Platinum registrants.
