England may be out of the World Cup, but they do have something to celebrate this weekend: Glastonbury Festival, which kicked off on Thursday.
Jumping from an audience of 1,500 in its first showing in 1970 to selling out hundreds of thousands of tickets in 2014, Glastonbury Festival is huge, in size and notoriety. The massive festival takes place on an expanse of fields surrounded by an eight-and-a-half-mile-long fence and boasts even larger acts, such as Arcade Fire, Foster The People, Metallica, Haim, Skrillex, Ed Sheeran, The Black Keys -- the list goes on and on and on. With more than 100 stages, Glastonbury Festival fills its five days with TONS of music but also art, poetry, cinema, circus, market places, activism. You name it, and it's probably there -- including SXSW alumni.
While the English and those who can afford the travel costs to Glastonbury Festival enjoy living in "a mini-state under canvas" for the next couple days, the rest of us will celebrate with The Backbeat. Oh, yes, SXSWfm's rock show has finally returned.
Tune in at 12 p.m. & 6 p.m. CST to hang out while host Jessica churns out tracks by SXSW alumni who are playing Glastonbury. Make sure to stick around for the second half of the show for tunes by good ol' SXSW alumni who aren't playing the festival this weekend.
It's been a while since The Backbeat has rocked the Internet, and it's looking to come back with a Glastonbury Festival-sized bang. Check out ways to listen below.
