SXSW Keynote: Bruce Springsteen

Springsteen came to SXSW as a warm-up for his world tour with the E Street Band, both performing (in the 2,750-seat ACL Live at the Moody Theater venue) and delivering the Music Keynote address, in which he focused on his lifelong love of music and its impact on how he has viewed the world. He also included a salute to Woody Guthrie, highlighted by Springsteen’s story of singing all of the verses of “This Land Is Your Land” at President Barack Obama's 2008 inauguration at the insistence of Pete Seeger, who wanted the message in those infrequently heard lyrics to be shared with the crowd. At his concert, he sang the song for an encore while joined by the likes of Tom Morello, Alejandro Escovedo, Joe Ely, and members of both Arcade Fire and Low Anthem.
