“The source material is so great and I remember having seen the movie in theaters and being such a big fan of Taika [Waititi] and Jemaine [Clement]. It’s a dream job, actually.” – Stefani Robinson, Writer
Based on the wildly popular film of the same name, What We Do in the Shadows is set in Staten Island and follows four vampires who have been roommates for hundreds and hundreds of years. Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement serve as the directors and executive producers of the series that made its debut at SXSW 2019 in the Episodic Premieres screening section. The series stars Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillén, Mark Proksch, and Beanie Feldstein.
The show features a lot of changes, in addition to a new setting. When bringing up some of the challenges of making the series, moderator Ben Travers (TV Critic, IndieWIRE) asked about some of the aspects the crew was excited about.
“I had a little trepidation about doing this without the original cast of the movie but once we started talking about who we wanted on the show and watching auditions and found the cast that we have, it’s very exciting and funny.” – Paul Simms, Producer
