Dr. Jennifer Doudna is a co-inventor of CRISPR-Cas9, a scientific process that has revolutionized gene editing. In her presentation, she discussed its various applications, specifically regarding potential treatment for sickle-cell disease and cancer, as well as related ethical issues associated with CRISPR-Cas9. Doudna also stated that the process could enable human beings to “control our own evolution” by determining which genetic traits could be inherited by future generations.
