Get the best access to your most anticipated SXSW 2020 events with SXXpress (South by Express) Passes! The digital SXXpress Passes are an essential resource for SXSW registrants to not only secure a spot at must-see events but also jump to the front of the line.

All SXSW Badges – Platinum, Interactive, Film, and Music – can request priority access to individual events you have primary access to based on your SXSW Badge type. Eligible SXXPress events include Conference sessions, Music Festival Showcases, Film Festival Screenings, Comedy Festival Showcases, and select parties.

New for 2020, registrants can request passes prior to picking up their badge as long as they have linked their badge. A badge is still required for entry to all SXSW events.

Dive into SXXpress Pass steps and tips below to make the most out of your SXSW experience.

Download SXSW GO

First, download the SXSW GO app and login in to begin. If you haven’t created your SXSW account yet, you can do so by going to SXSW Social (social.sxsw.com). This will allow you to build your SXSW Schedule and sync your Favorites between different devices.

SXXpress Passes are digital and can be requested through the SXSW Schedule or in SXSW GO, the official mobile app. Passes are distributed via email, Apple Wallet, and Google Pay.

Link Your Badge to Request SXXPress Passes

Before you can sign up for SXXpress Passes, you must log in and link your badge in the SXSW GO or SXSW Social, using the SXSW Link Code found in your registration confirmation email.

Multiple Passes Daily

Each SXSW event is allocated a limited number of SXXpress Passes, which can be requested starting at 9:00am on the day before each event. Requests open on Thursday, March 12 for events on Friday, March 13, and close on Saturday, March 21. New for 2020, registrants can request passes prior to picking up their badge as long as they have linked their badge.

You can request a SXXpress Pass for most (but not all) events that you have primary access to based on your badge type. SXXpress Pass allotment and event eligibility varies by badge type:

  • Platinum registrants may request up to three passes per day for primary access to Conference Sessions, Film Festival Screenings, Music Festival Showcases, Comedy Festival Showcases, and Parties (Interactive/Film/Music Opening Parties and Film Intermission Party).

  • Interactive registrants may request up to two passes per day for primary access to Interactive and Convergence Sessions, Comedy Festival Showcases, and Interactive Opening Party.

  • Film registrants may request for up to two passes per day for primary access to Film Screenings, Film and Convergence Sessions, Comedy Festival Showcases, and the Film Opening Party and Film Intermission Party.

  • Music registrants may request up to two passes per day for primary access to Music Showcases, Music and Convergence Sessions, Comedy Festival Showcases, and the Music Opening Party.

Event types that do not have SXXpress Passes include: Networking Meet Ups, Mentor Sessions, Workshops and Roundtables, and Gaming Expo.

Follow the Request Prompts on SXSW GO

The SXSW Schedule and SXSW GO app will display a SXXpress widget on all eligible events with a helpful “checklist to see if you are ready to begin. Widgets will also show the date and time for when SXXpress requests open for each event. Passes go fast for high profile events so start practicing your screen-tapping speed.

How to Request a SXXpress Pass:

  1. Browse the schedule in SXSW GO and select the event you’d like to request.
  2. Tap on “Request SXXpress Pass” to proceed.
  3. “Confirm Pass” request (there are no exchanges).
  4. Congrats! An email is on the way.

If you are 1) already signed up for the event, 2) have already reached daily allowance of passes, or 3) do not have primary access with your badge type, select a different event to request a SXXpress Pass.

If SXXpress Passes are no longer available for an event, you can still attend! Check the Event Status on SXSW GO and plan accordingly. Admission to all SXSW events is subject to capacity.

Event Status is a Green-Yellow-Red system which appears on the SXSW GO app, the SXSW Schedule, and on the digital Event Status Boards located around the Austin Convention Center and other venues. This system applies to conference sessions and festival events.

When Does SXXpress Pass Close?

Screenings, Sessions, and Parties: the request period will end when the limited number of Passes have been claimed or 5 hours before the session, film, or party, whichever comes first.

Music Showcases: the request period will end when the limited number of Passes have been claimed or at 3pm the day of the showcase, whichever comes first.

The SXXpress widgets on the SXSW Schedule and SXSW GO app will display when all passes have been allocated or request period has passed.
