As we learn more about the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, it's apparent that the needs of the affected population are going to quickly outstrip the resources available. SXSW urges you to donate now to the Red Cross, which has a great history of being first on the scene after a disaster, offering the most practical help available. Your contribution, large or small, can make a real difference in people's lives who are lacking the most basic necessities - water, food, shelter, and medical attention.

Accelerator winners by Jay ConlonWant to get involved with SXSW Interactive next year, but not sure how? One of the most exciting and fun ways to participate is through SXSW awards shows and competitions. Do you have a digital project from 2012 that you are particularly proud of? The SXSW Interactive Awards could be right for you. As a finalist you get a registration to attend the awards show, a chance to meet peers in the industry and do press interviews and maybe even take home the coveted prize in your category.
Though our hearts and minds are with our friends and colleagues on the East Coast today, we at SXSW Interactive have decided to stick to our previously released programming announcement schedule. To that end, please see our most recently accepted programming below.

Richard Dorsett, Credit: David Fox
Our dear friend and colleague Richard Dorsett suddenly passed away on Friday, October 26th in his home in Austin. Richard had been associated with SXSW for many years as a music festival submissions curator and an Assistant Production Manager, supervising the production of music festival shows.
Richard was one of the original Inner Sanctum Records clerks at the seminal Austin indie record shop during the 1970s, where his trenchant in-store commentary became the stuff of legend. His status in the history of the early punk rock/new wave scene in Austin was cemented with his arrest by the Austin Police Department during the riot that accompanied the debut appearance at Raul's of punk band The Huns, making him one of the "Huns 7."
