Exit/In was established in 1971 and has had some of the best musicians of all time grace their stage. Notable names include Johnny Cash, Talking Heads, Band of Horses, and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. The space has a 500-person capacity and is located near Centennial Park in downtown Nashville. Some of the artists slated to play the venue this year include The Sword, Dum Dum Girls, Mac DeMarco, and The 1975.
We are very pleased to have Exit/In presenting their first SXSW Music Showcase curated entirely of acts from Nashville. The showcase will be held on Friday, March 14th at Parish Underground and is comprised of both garage and punk rock bands. Two Backbeat favorites, Diarrhea Planet and PUJOL, will be headlining the show.
Diarrhea Planet, formed in 2009, is a six piece power punk group that has released two LPs on JEFF the Brotherhood's label, Infinity Cat Recordings. PUJOL, also formed in 2009, is a garage rock quartet fronted by Daniel Pujol, whom the band pulled their name from. They have released a number of singles on Jack White's Third Man Records, as well as Infinity Cat, and now call Saddle Creek home (along with The Faint, The Thermals).
Also slated for the bill are RI¢HIE, Cy Barkley and the Way Outsiders, Bully, and No Regrets Coyote.
If you want to hear more SXSW 2014 rock showcase announcements tune into The Backbeat every Friday at noon or 6pm CDT. You can also stream the recorded shows starting each Saturday after the original airing via our SoundCloud.
